Is Online Gambling Legal in Illinois?

Illinois has long been associated with betting activities ranging from horse racing and casinos to online gaming sites such as Skrill. Illinois lawmakers appear receptive to legalising online gambling; when this becomes reality players should expect plenty of payment methods including bank transfers, Automated Clearing House payments and e-wallets such as Skrill.

Composed of five board members appointed by the Governor with advice and consent of the Senate, its civilian and sworn staff perform audit, regulatory, licensing enforcement investigatory rulemaking adjudicatory functions. Furthermore, bingo games, gambling tickets with cards dice or wheels as well as charitable game events like pull tabs or jar games may require licensing licenses issued from them by IGB before proceeding further with regulations or license issues by these authorities.

At present, two bills in Illinois legislature that aim to legalise online casinos – House Bill 2239 and Senate Bill 1656 – remain pending before their respective Senate Assignment Committees, with uncertain fates ahead.

Illinois may remain legal for real-money online casino gambling; however, residents can enjoy online sweepstakes casinos and social gaming platforms that operate under US sweepstakes laws, allowing participants to purchase “sweeps coins” that can be used to win prizes or cash.
